I think I need a break from running.
My right hamstring is killing me.
My legs are tired.
As much as I hate it.. I think its what my body needs.
I hate it. I get the best high from running.
I have not been getting that lately and it is frustrating!!
I had planned to do a marathon this fall but I do not know if I will...
I am going to take a break. I will still work out but will not run.
Instead I will bike, use the stair climber or elliptical, go to spin classes.
Anything BUT run!
So sad!
Questions:
Have you ever taken a break from running or something to recover other than after training for a race?
I did but I think I should have waited longer. I just got antsy!

Not feeling it.
What do you do when you just don't have the energy?
I just haven't felt or had the energy to blog.
I sweat I will get back into it..
I have some good plans for the next couple posts.
Over the past 4 days I have been busy.
On Thursday Jason and I drove back to our home town.
We spent sometime with his grandparents before taking his younger sisters out to dinner.
His one sister just graduates and turned 18!
I wish I could go back and do it all over again...
We spent the night at his dad's house, sleeping in, and making a lazy breakfast, which was hard because Jason's dad is a bachelor and generally does not fill his kitchen with healthy options...meaning no fresh fruit or veggies..
I opted for instant oatmeal with some PB swirled in.. Jason even tried and liked it!
My dad left for the Peace Corp in March and is renting out our house to a friend.
He also left our family dog there... who I miss so much.
So we decided to stop by and see my childhood house and Morgan!
It was great to see my puppy..
He is getting old now and has pretty bad arthiritis.
He was just at the vet because he was limping around and has all these cysts all over, but he still runs around and acts like a little puppy..
We headed into town, and had some time before we had to meet up with a family friend..
So we stopped by this little organic cafe.
We also had a pita and hummus plate.
We headed over to my family friends house to visit.
She had just stepped on a pitch fork and gotten stabbed. She had to get stitches and had to ice her leg.
I helped by making iced tea, emptying the dish washer, and bringing her iced peas for her leg.
We headed back to his dad's and watched some of Wimbledon.
We got a bit lazy..so I decided to hit up his dad's treadmill for a little bit, running 4 miles with some hills.
I showered and we headed out to our friends birthday party.
It was a little bit of a disaster since I hadn't really eaten dinner, and there was nothing veggie friendly, only snacks available so I spent more of the night snacking on chips and spinach dip.
Saturday was a lazy day. I felt horrible, lacked energy, and was feeling very sick. I just laid around for a majority of the day before heading out to Trader Joes & Whole Food's to grab some groceries. I decided to get some xanthan gum & chia seeds for my smoothies, as well as this,..
Looks pretty nasty when mixed up but.. has some pretty awesome benefits...
Fireworks have been going off and our cats are TERRIFIED of the noise.
Max crawled under the couch which had a whole in the lining. He always crawls in there when he is scared. So funny..
Today Jason and I headed to the gym together. I stayed a bit longer as Jason had to go to work and walked home.
I attempted to make a smoothie when I got home..
AND disaster fell..
Blender began to steam and burn!! AHH..
Time for a new one..luckily this was donated to me from my mom..
I headed off for some errands including..
Anyone remember this movie, complete with these guys..
I am trying to keep myself busy and since I didn't get any strength training in earlier today, I did some P90X which was absolute killer, not because of the work out but also because our air conditioner stopped working down stairs. POURING, DRIPPING, SOAKED in Sweat.
After a shower, it is now smoothie and relaxing time!

P90X
I am back into it.. partially.
Instead of heading off to the gym or a run this am, I decided to do P90X Back and Biceps.
It was a perfect start to a day, other than a run...
I definitely felt the burn, and remembered why Tony was so annoying but I don't care.
He makes me sweat and I generally don't sweat when I do strength training. I love when others push me, like in classes because I don't push myself until I burn when I am on my own! Definitely helps me a lot (I have noticed that I say definitely a lot!)
I do like P90X and even like some of the cardio, but generally just do the strength training aspect of P90X. I have to say the X Stretch is $$$$! I did it at one point when i was training for my marathon after a long run, and I felt wonderful the next day!!! If you have P90X.. DO IT!! It is AWESOME!
Made a banana/coconut smoothie this morning , very simple, just banana, coconut, flax seeds, ice, & water. Also had an apple and a handful of nuts.
Heading off to a meeting in a bit, and to meet with a client.
Then off for a run!

Forgiveness.
Let me finish off my last post..
My work out this am was a little more 4 miles in 32 minutes (finishing off strong with a minute sprint at 9.0)
Then 20-20-20 class! Which was KILLLLER! We did a sprint across the gym two times, which I love because it bring out my competitive edge.. the last person had to do pushups, and I totallly kicked everyone else's ass. Hahaha..
I also did 30 minutes on the stairclimber before finishing off with some additional stretches.
I tried something different for breakfast. A coffee smoothie. We are running a bit low on frozen fruit..and I am trying to save a bit of money.. So I just used what I had.. Coffee, Ice, and Vanilla Protein Powder
Did some work before heading off to meet with a couple clients..
I decided against the spin class and instead did P90X Chest, Shoulders &Triceps. I have a bunch of stuff to do tonight and wanted to get it done..
I haven't done P90X in forever and remember when I did in last spring I was in AAAAmmmAAzing shape!! It was tough! I was sweating after the first set of push ups!!
Also did Ab Ripper X for a little extra!

Soo... Jay and I live in a kind of up and coming area.
the woman who lives next door to us is older and has lived here for 30 years.
We have not exactly gotten along too well and have gotten into a couple arguments about stupid things. For example, she yelled at us for putting our garbage on her side of the side walk, past the line that seperates our property from her's. She also yelled at us for not cleaning up garbage on Christmas Eve, as we were leaving to go to our family, as well as yelling at us for the roof repair man messing up her roof when he fixed ours. We rent so our landlord is responsible for repairs and we do not even get involved in repairs. As you can see, it is silly stuff and has resulted in a bad relationship between us. We have tried to be nice and say hello yet she ignores us.
Lately she has been a bit nicer. She asked me to help her with a gate that was stuck in our backyard (which is connected). Today she told me that I was beautiful, had beautiful legs, and told me she was bored because she doesn't have much to do and doesn't drive!
I headed out to go to the store and asked her if she needed anything, and she invited me in, and told me she was sorry for ever yelling at us, but she was this old lady that got angry sometimes and she did not know why. I felt so bad. I told her I understand and it happens to everyone, so she should not feel bad.
I am so glad that is resolved and hope that we can have a good relationship in the future. I hate having poor relationships with those around me.. especially if that means that things will suffer when you want to do things..
I think forgiveness is essential in life and it is not worth worrying over petty things in order for you to be happy. Worrying causes you stress, causes you to loose sleep, affects your sleep, your looks, your weight, and your relationships. IT IS NOT WORTH IT! (channeling Hungry Runner Girl's color changing type)!
Questions:
Have you ever done P90X? What do you think!?
I did it last spring, and was in the best shape ever. I was also running a ton and had sooo much endurance!! Kind of want to do it again! Or atleast partially!
Have you ever gotten into an argument with a neighbor? Or someone close that was over something silly?
How does stress/worry affect you?
I really loose sleep when I am stressed. I have trouble sleeping as it is anyway so it is not good!

Eggs for Breakfast.
Lazy morning due to our late night rowdiness.
Jason got into a little early morning cleaning.. cleaning the kitchen from head to toe.
I helped a bit by sweeping the living room a bit.
I thanked him by making him a little egg sandwich
It was yummy and a perfect hangover meal..
Laziness will take over today.. its beautiful out, but I am lacking energy.
I will make a point to do a work out at some point.. especially because tomorrow I am heading to the beach with my step-sisters!

Busy bee, sleepless nights.
Lately I have been busy..
moving from one thing to the next without a moment to stop and think.
I actually have been sleeping really well until last night..possibly due to alcohol??
Thursday
I woke up early for the gym.
It looked a little threatening of thunderstorms and I didn't want to get stuck out in the rain/thunder/lightening...
My legs were tired from the spin class and sprints the previous day.. Something I did not notice until I was actually running. I did a lot of switches from the treadmill to stair climber, and did a bit on the elliptical as well!
Strength training was made up of lunges with high knees, triceps (overhead, on the bench, & tricep kickbacks) along with mass of others things..
I had a couple of meetings that day.. and stuck in traffic - coming home completly exhausted.
Jason was home- but left to hang out with his little brother, and did not come home until later.
We headed out for some drinks and apps at a local place with outdoor seating.
I had been craving margarita's for a while and induldged in a pomegrante margarita. We split some edamame, a mushroom flat bread, and Jason got some wings.
Friday
Friday, I spent the morning doing work on the couch while Jason sent out some applications and emails. I actually was on the phone most of the day with clients.. not what I had originally planned!!
We headed off to my office together so I could drop of some paperwork..
Got some lunch at Wegman's..
A serious salad plate-- My salad cost me $13 dollars.. the number 1 reason why I bring my own food during the work day!! ..I piled on beets, chickpeas, tomato's, cucumber, an egg, roasted asparagus, roasted carrots, as well as a black bean burger, and some cheese artichoke thing Jason wanted me to put in. He got chinese..
We walked around a bit..venturing into Best Buy and Eastern Mountain Sports..where we drooled a little bit over the kayak's/canoes.. Would love to be able to do something like that this summer. Just cannot afford our own boat!
Before heading back home - we headed back to Wegman's and grabbed some craft beer. They have an amazing selection of craft beers, local beer, & international beer. I always tell Jason about it! He was pretty impressed!
Driving home was tiring. Jason got to experience what I go through when I get stuck in traffic!
Although I was tired and unmotivated..
I MADE myself go to the gym..
It was a quick work out since we had plans that evening.
All I did was run almost 7.5 miles and that was it. I tried to do some fast 1/4 miles by speeding up from 7.3 to 8.0 every other lap. I finished off with a 9.0 sprint for the last minute..before heading home for a quick shower..
My college roommate was having a little get together for her birthday-- composed of chocolate covered pretzel shots...
CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZEL
1/3 part Pinicple Whip Vodka (Its whipped cream vodka)
2/3 part Franggelico
lick back of hand and salt hand.
Lick Salt and do shot....
..card games, some beer pong, snacks of veggies, hummus, chips, salsa, and guac. I felt like I was back in college..and actually came home and passed out on the couch, waking up there at 5 am. Usually that is something Jason does, not me. After waking up and attempting to go back to sleep, unsuccessful, I am now watching girlie movies, and will probably try to sleep soon. This is not going to be one of those early workout Saturday's as much as I wish it was!

Veggie Love.
Is it weird that I seriously love veggies.?
I mean, I don't think I could go ONE day without eating them, and when I do.. I am very sad.
Thankfully this is a rare event.
I LOVE veggies.. so much that Jay says I am going to turn into a veggie one day...
Favorite Veggies: (if I have to choose...)
Jay thinks I am weird because I put spinach in my smoothies but it just gives me POWER like Popeye!
I just ate a plateful of eggplant with pesto! Weird I know .. but these are two of my loves mixed together.
Anyway..
I was very much looking forward to a night with Jay tonight..
He made plans...
He went to visit a friend from college, his old room-mate until Thursday!
Bummer..
Oh, well..
So now I am sitting outside, after finishing my plate of eggplant with a glass of wine.
I just got told by one of my neighbors it is not a good sign that I am drinking alone..
...well I am alone, so I will have my glass of wine!
Workout
My workout today was a bit rough!
My legs were sore from the long run yesterday..
I love/hate feeling sore!
I did:
20 mins stairclimber
21 minutes on the treadmill, (5 min. warmup at 7.0, every minute after increased speed to 8.0)--> I struggled..
30 minutes stairclimber
Stretching
Weight lifting.. was kinda random but..
Finished off with a 7:15 mile.. which I also struggled through.
I wanted to run more but my body did not let me.. So, that is that.
Oat bran with protein powder, nutmeg and apples for Bfast
Lunch was kinda on the run-- water, banana, and Luna Bar (which was melty because it had been sitting in the sun!)
Overall today was not so bad..my session was a success, traffic wasn't bad, it turned into a beautiful but sweaty day, and my eval from my school went well!
Hope you had a beautiful Tuesday! Its almost half way through the week!!

The Big Morning Decision...
..to sleep or work out?
I meant to wake up early to get a work out in, but I slept through my alarm.
I still managed to wake up an hour after my alarm was supposed to go off.
I intially thought, well, I already woke up late, maybe I should just skip it..
This happens a lot when I have to wake up early, but I DID IT!
I figured that its better to at least get some of a workout in..even if it was not what I had originally planned, than not work out at all!
It took me a little bit to get moving..
I did over a 4 mile run in a little over 30 minutes.
13 minutes on the Stair climber..
I definatly needed to stretch. My left hamstring is feeling pretty tight..
Abs & Push ups.
I finished off with 13 minutes of intervals.
1-8.5, 1.0 incline
2- 4.5, 14 incline
3. 8.5, 2 incline
4-13; 1 minute 4..5, 1.0 incline, 1 minute 9.0, 1.0 incline
ugh boy was I sweaty..
As I was walking out, a cop told me that I had worked out enough for him..so he felt better by himself!
Breakfast
A spinach, raspberry, strawberry smoothie with vanilla protein powder and ice cubes. Yum. Perfect Start to the day along with some espresso coffee and an apple to eat on my way to work..
Work
I have to say, some days are easier than others.
Some of the kids that I work with are a joy, and I leave feeling as if I am helping them as well as their families. They are sweet, and their smiles go a long way in making me feel as if my long drive to work is worth it.. (despite the crazy traffic)
These last two days have not been those kind of days. Yesterday, despite working with the cutest kid, I got spit on, kicked, and he swore at me (while laughing).. oh, by the way.. he is in PRESCHOOL!! That is when I know it is all due to the home that the child lives in, and the influence the family members has on their child's behaviors.
Today..two of us went to observe a boy in school. He is a very difficult case. He was recently diagnosed with seizure disorder but he also has numerous other health problems, including previous feeding tubes, ear plugs, early onset adolescence ( you don't want to know what that mean for him.. it includes feet! :/ ) He is also a big curser, and if I leave a session with him without being sworn at 2 times (called a b****, f*** up a**.. and more) I can call it a success (though it has not happened yet!)
What a joy... This is why I run!
I spent part of the afternoon sitting in Wegman's eating my lunch, with papers spread all over, my computer open, pretty much looking like a mess!
This is my to go spot because there is free Wi-Fi, food!, and I feel better because I am not stuck in our stuffy office!
I am tired! Thank god I do not have any clients the remainder of the week (though this doesn't mean I don't have work to do...)
Although I had planned on writing a post about adrenaline.. I will save it for tomorrow!

Starting off the day right.
Today is the first day of the week that it hasn't been unbearably hot when I woke up..
It was sunny and in the 70's. I could NOT not go for a run outside.. So I did.
One of my favorite places to run in Philly is on Kelly Drive near the art museum. Its a favorite of most people actually and on really nice days in the afternoon or on weekdays it can be a little busy with bikers, runners, walkers, etc. at some parts. The art museum is there, the river, Boat House row.. BEAUTIFUL!
I usually do a loop which equals about 8.5 miles and sometimes I will do a little more if I am feeling up for it which will be about 13 miles, I almost always do the steps of the art museum a la Rocky!
Today I just did the loop and no stairs. Ever since doing my last 1/2 my leg has been bothering me so today I stopped a couple times to walk a bit. But I finished with running. Went to the gym to stretch out, do some weights. Today has been pretty relaxed since I have a much later start to the day...So it was nice not to feel rushed!
Came home and ate an apple and made a wonderful smoothie bowl... I have grown to love these. They keep me so full and I always try to sneak some spinach in.. which I love anyway in anything so its no problem! So YUUUMMMY!
I am prepping for a bit girls weekend, starting off with shopping tomorrow with a friend from grad. school for a bachelorette party outfit, and then going to Atlantic City Saturday for the night for the bachelorette party! Filled with the beach, food, drinks, fun, and a male revue!! Very excited!! Definitely need some hard core girl time!

Permenantly Sweaty.
Another hot and sweaty day.
Again I woke up semi-early, and made a trip to the bank then gym.
It was already mid-80's. I wanted to run outside this morning for National Running Day, but my tummy wasn't really feeling up for it, so decided to head to the gym where I would be safe if any tummy problems occurs :/ So jealous of Bess, & her sweaty run!
I ran for a bit, but my hips were definitely feeling it.. still I managed to run 5 miles in 42 minutes (7.0, 2 incline).
I did 35 min. on the Stair Master, and wanted to do more but I was seriously grossly sweaty and felt like I could not hold on to anything without slipping, or splashing others with sweat!
so.. I just stretched, did some abs, and weights. Jason came just as I was finishing so I benched a little with him before climbing on the bike for 13 minutes before heading out.
I have recently begun looooving some cardio at the end of my work outs, usually and hot and speedy interval. I gives me that last little boost to get started with my day...
I decided against running today to give my hips a break.
After a pretty unsuccessful smoothie due to some temporary malfunction from the blender, and headed off for some work in the office, and then a session with a kid. Nothing to spectacular. I brought some veggies and hummus, along with an orange to snack on. (also "taste tested" some little organic nut/fruit bars in the bins at Wegmans when I went to pick up BBQ sauce for dinner.. Everyone does it right??!)
BBQ chicken, shrimp along with some eggplant, spinach and broccoli for dinner tonight while sitting outside on our pathetic little pavement yard... at least we have something outside?!
Now to relax, with the Phillies game in the background, and reading on the couch. I just began reading Breaking Night. So far so good.. I love reading but lately haven't had time to because of school. I recently finished Water for Elephants which I started months ago, along with The Story of a Beautiful Girl both of which I highly recommend (thought i think many people already know about Water for Elephants. I love reading. When I was little I would read books in a day. I still tend to do that a lot but have less time to do so..
One thing that made me really sad today was about this little girl that I am working with. A report was recently made that her Mom's ex-boyfriend sexually abused her. She is a cute little 4 year old girl, and her Mom is so upset about it, and I cannot blame her. There are a lot of signs that it may be true as well. Today she was told that she has to bring her to the doctor to get examined...for scar tissue. Horrible. Her mom is super worried because she has always told her that she is the only one that is supposed to touch her down there when she takes a bath, and wonders what will happen when the doctor examines her.. ugh.. horrible. No one deserves this type of thing to happen to their child!
Congrats to Julie! I am so jealous and wish I could do that but then realize I am still in school and working to do something more, and I have a lot more to come in the next couple years/months...?

A day in the life..
Today has been a looong, hott day!
I woke up early to get my outta the gym for four days butt-- back into the gym.
Definitely feeling tired, but I knew this was my only chance to get to the gym and not feel rushed. I walked outside and it was already 80 degrees!! At 5 am!!!.. Its gonna be a HOT one!
It was a tough work out, with almost 9 mile run (split into three parts, first 25 min was fast with low incline, 2nd part was 27 minutes alternating fast, with low incline with slower and higher incline, 3rd part was 20 min 2 min. 7 spd, 1 min. 8.5 spd) I also did 35 min on the stair climber in between and some strength - mostly legs. My legs were definitely feeling it after. My knee was bothering me more which is why I focused on leg/glutes today, since I tend to ignore my leg muscles when I run a lot, which results in a lot of knee and hip problems for me. Hopefully it won't happen to the degree that it did during training for the marathon.
I came home and made a spinach/strawberry/banana smoothie bowl (inspired by Peanut Butter Fingers) which I have grown to love. I used to use a little smoothie blender, but the cup broke so now am using the blender, which makes the smoothies a million times better, just a little more annoying to clean..
Off to work.. Had 3 clients today, which wasn't bad. The worst part of my job is driving. I have to give extra time between appointments and to get to/from places. Its exhausting, but I usually am able to avoid the big traffic jams.
Lunch didn't compose of much since I didn't eat breakfast till later. Its always hard to pack for when you are on the road all day. I used to make salads for lunch at my old job. I will still do that if I have a break in between clients or if I am doing work in the office..
Today, lunch was a simple protein shake, yogurt and banana at different times. Kind of boring.. Nothing exciting but definitely portable and easy.. I am trying to get more protein into my diet and less gluten/wheat products. I feel as if grains really effect my stomach in a BAD way,, and want to try to experiment with not eating it. A couple weeks ago I tried part of the Dukan Diet- and did not have ANY stomach problems for a good five days!! I also atone this to my decreased snacking.. which happens a lot when I am bored at night.
I have gotten tested for any food allergies and intolerance before and nothing has turned up...other than the fact that I am missing the enzyme that digests alcohol. As a result I have what is called the Asian Flush. This causes my face to get red and blotchy. I am really self conscious about it.. but that doesn't stop me from enjoying a drink (or two ) on the weekend.
Just home.. its still in the 90's! I like having my work out done and being able to relax! Waiting for Jay to get home to take a little walk. The kitties are cuddling with me..
These next couple days are not extremely busy but I am trying to get ready for a bachelorette party of one of my college friends this weekend..Along with work outs, work.. and everything else that life brings so I do feel a little overwhelmed. SOOO happy class is over!!
Sorry my posts haven't included pictures... Just trying to get writing again and soon again I will include pictures and all that fun stuff!
